    Senior Dogs at Arizona Beagle Rescue Get Grant for Golden Years

    Senior pups have something to wag about this week, as the national nonprofit The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants for animal welfare organizations providing programs for at-risk senior dogs--and Arizona Beagle Rescue’s dogs find themselves among the winners. Arizona Beagle Rescue (AZBR) is one of 38 organizations representing 25 states receiving over $225,000 in funding from the group in 2016.

Inmate Hospitalized Following Suicide Attempt at County Jail

A 34-year-old female inmate of the Pinal County Jail is in critical condition at a local hospital following a suicide attempt while in her cell on July 22. The inmate was in PCSO custody following a July 20 arrest for child abuse, possession of marijuana, auto theft, hit and run, criminal damage and trespassing.

Sheriff Asks for Emergency Funding to Address New Threats to Deputies

On Wednesday afternoon, in response to the new threat environment our law enforcement officers face, Sheriff Paul Babeu asked the county Board of Supervisors for emergency funding to purchase personal protective equipment for uniformed deputies and to fund updated training to help deputies survive a deadly sniper attack.

Green Party presidential candidate on the ballot

State law requires that in order for the presidential nominee to appear on the ballot, the state party chairman must submit its presidential electors’ nomination papers to the Secretary of State’s office at least 90 days before the primary election. Arizona’s Green Party failed to submit its presidential electors’ by the June 1st deadline.

Bar-S hotdogs, corn dogs recalled nationwide

Bar-S Foods Company, an Altus, Okla. establishment, is recalling approximately 372,684 pounds of chicken and pork hot dog and corn dog products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
