You might think it's none of my business how many kids you have, and why. But let's assume HB 2625 has passed into law, and let's further assume that I am your employer. I now have every right to ask, why do you only have two children? (Or is it three, now?) There are only a couple of answers. Possibly you wanted to have a child every year, but you have had medical difficulties. That would be sad, but I'm not going to take your word for it. I demand to see your medical records. Prove to me that you're not using the evil contraceptives, and all will be well. Refuse to show me your records, and I can fire you. If it turns out you ARE using the evil contraceptives, I can fire you. And by the way, if you don't have a job, Mrs. Smith, then you must have insurance through your husband's policy. So the same question would apply - are you using birth control?
It may be that Senator Smith thinks this will only apply to OTHER women, not his wife. Sorry, but no. And doesn't he have daughters? Does he want them to grow up ignorant (as Santorum recommends), dependent on some man, and of course........pregnant, pregnant, pregnant? Maybe that's another question for Mrs. Smith to answer, although it's doubtful that he would give any weight to her opinion. She's a woman, after all.
I am waiting for some Republican - any Republican - to repudiate what is going on across the country. Tell me you believe Rush Limbaugh is a disgusting bully. Tell me you believe women are NOT too stupid to make their own health care decisions. Tell me you are repelled by the medical rape being mandated by Texas and other Republican state legislatures. Until that happens, I will be repeating the same thing over and over: No woman, or man who cares about women, should vote for any Republican for any office of any kind. I don't care if it's for Dogcatcher (not that we have an election for one). No one who claims membership in the party of hate and misogyny deserves any respect at all.
There's another aspect to Senator Smith's reproductive life - last December, at a Maricopa City Council Meeting, he complained about how hard it is to support a family on a paltry $24,000 for a part-time government job. Never mind the fact that he has been part of a Legislature that has deliberately put several thousand OTHER government workers on unemployment, and never mind the fact that there are many families living on less than $24,000 without a full-time "day" job to go with it. Think about this: Clearly the Senator wants ME, the TAXPAYER, to subsidize his irresponsible choices. what about personal responsibility? If he can't support his family, he shouldn't have more children, and since he disapproves of birth control, maybe he should consider separate bedrooms.
Oh wait - that could be why he doesn't have 12 children! Let's ask Mrs. Smith - inquiring (Republican) minds want to know!
