Horror of Horrors

by: Roberto Reveles

This past week the oh so-sensitive non-politician Paul Babeu was, horror of horrors, “shocked” by what he described as “an election tactic” by President Barack Obama.

What is genuinely shocking is that the publicly disgraced Babeu continues his own brand of embarrassing “election tactics”.

Not fazed by the recent public rejection of his unfounded and ghoulish attempt at exploiting the tragic Tempe family death scene, Babeu this past week again rushed in front of the cameras and microphones with another “election tactic”.

This time, it was in hyperventilated reaction to the President’s efforts at resolving a tragic situation which has entrapped thousands of young undocumented residents wishing to use their education and training in support of our economy and our military.

Meanwhile, out of camera range and beyond the microphones, tidbits are beginning to surface hinting that additional incidents are being added to the already lengthy list of the corrosive Team Babeu legacy.

The Pinal County Justice Foundation was originally established by Sheriff Vasquez for the benefit of law enforcement personnel and their families.

For some time there’s been the appearance of suspicious intermingling of funds by the Babeu Team.

Recently discovered, but not yet publicly acknowledged, is the wrongful use of Foundation funds by a favored employee of the Sheriff for purely personal use.   Instead of “shock”, Babeu apparently directed the employee to repay the money with the understanding there would be no Internal Affairs, no criminal investigation.

Covering up a wrongful act fits well for Babeu as an “election tactic” while he sanctimoniously campaigns with his Law and Order theme.  He criticizes the County Attorney for lack of prosecutions while wrongful appropriation of donated funds by his own Team Babeu employee is silently swept under the carpet.

Other questionable expenditures of monies from the Foundation’s Recreation, Welfare and Morale Fund, continue to elude public scrutiny.

Including the funding for his brothers and sister and their children to attend the National Sheriffs Association in St. Louis last year to see him receive a now besmirched award.  How is that providing Recreation, Welfare and Morale for PCSO”s employees?  Oh well, just another “election tactic” by the values-deficient Babeu.

The public deserves full disclosure and transparency on how the public business is being conducted in our county’s offices.

The Sheriff’s favored employees, no less than the Sheriff himself, must be held accountable.  Let’s see the “Law and Order” Sheriff produce records related to this latest questionable act by one of his favored employees.  Babeu’s actions in this cover-up are not an acceptable “election tactic.”
