Foster and Tompkins’ trip was coordinated by Professor Felippe Ramos who taught at CAC as a Fulbright visiting scholar during the spring 2011 semester.
When asked about the trip, Tompkins said, “We learned that many UFBA students share many of the same characteristics of our students.”
Topics of discussion included visiting CAC student and faculty accommodations, as well as the course of study for CAC students and the teaching assignments for visiting CAC professors. CAC and UFBA representatives also discussed common goals and long-term possibilities of the exchange program.
Foster and Tompkins also traveled to the Federal University of Sergipe in Sergipe, Brazil, to explore the potential of forming a partnership with UFS in the future.
Foster and Tompkins met with a wide variety of individuals from UFBA, including Professor Ana Rosa Neves Ramos, director of the international office; Professor Maria Salete, dean of the college of undergraduate studies; Professor Luis Edmundo Prado de Campos; Morjane Armstrong, assistant to Professor Tania Fischer, coordinator of the Center for Social Management; and Professors Ruthy Lomido and Denise Vitale, from the Laboratory of World Political Analysis.
Foster and Tompkins both agreed that the trip provided a good deal of information for the upcoming exchanges that includes two UFBA students coming to CAC for the fall of 2012 and two CAC students and one faculty member traveling to UFBA for spring 2013.
