Central Arizona Project (CAP), Arizona's single largest resource for renewable water supplies, supports and funds organizations that promote CAP's purpose to ensure an adequate water supply to the residents of Pima, Pinal and Maricopa Counties. Twice a year, CAP awards about $25,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations seeking funding for water and/or environmental education programs. CAP announces the semi-annual award winners in June and December. The application deadline for the next set of grant awards is May 1, 2011.

Joint Statement by Governor Jan Brewer and Attorney General Tom Horne re: Monday’s Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Decision on SB 1070

“I remain steadfast in my belief that Arizona and other states have a sovereign right and obligation to protect their citizens and enforce immigration law in accordance with federal statute,” said Governor Jan Brewer. “Monday’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold Judge Bolton’s suspension of key provisions of SB 1070 does harm to the safety and well-being of Arizonans who suffer the negative effects of illegal immigration.”

Join us for the unveiling of a solar-powered PV system on a residential group home made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The residential group home for developmentally disabled residents is owned and managed by the Marc Center of Mesa and is one of more than 30 homes to be equipped with solar energy systems through the $1.7 million Income Qualified Residential Solar Electric Program.

The program’s funding is the result of a grant through the Energy Office of the Arizona Commerce Authority and a matching grant from SRP. The photovoltaic systems will be installed on the group homes owned and managed by the Marc Center of Mesa and The Centers for Habilitation and are located in Mesa, Tempe, Queen Creek and Ahwatukee.

DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) announced that it was selected as the winning bidder in the bankruptcy court auction for substantially all of the assets of Blockbuster, Inc.  DISH Network's winning bid was valued at approximately $320 million.  After certain adjustments are made at closing of the transaction, including adjustments for available cash and inventory, DISH Network expects to pay approximately $228 million in cash to acquire Blockbuster at the closing which is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2011.

FLORENCE, AZ – Pinal County has received $3,168,315 in federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP3) funds.  These are funds made available through the U.S. Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Program’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  The program provides targeted emergency assistance to state and local governments to acquire, redevelop or demolish foreclosed properties.  This will meet the HUD objective of stabilizing neighborhoods damaged by foreclosure, vacancy or abandoned properties.

On April 17th, 2011 Alexandro Guerrero (age 26 of Yuma) had been ordered released from custody from the Pinal County Adult Detention Center after serving time for an outstanding “Failure to Comply” warrant out of Yuma.

While waiting in the booking area to be released, Guerrero, without any type of provocation, attacked a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Detention Officer. Guerrero punched the Detention Officer in the face as the officer was walking by him. The officer had no time to react to the vicious attack. Once knocked to the ground, Guerrero continued to punch and kick the officer.
