East Valley school districts push for budget overrides

Competitive sports programs are just one area that faces cuts if they fail to reinstate its budget override funding.

Independent Newspapers Voters will have a lot to choose from this November, including the decision to reinstate budget over­rides for some East Valley school districts, according to East Valley education officials. Dr. Gayle A. Blanchard, superin­tendent of Combs Unified School District, hopes voters will consider the choice between raised taxes and school cuts, which also rests on their shoulders.

School districts rely on these override funds, and their loss will mean cuts in programs like art, music and sports, but these funds come directly from the residents with noticeable tax increases.
