Dewayne Castillo

Hello.  My name is Dewayne Castillo and I am a co-owner of MyBizNow.com which I started over 10 years ago, and founder of San Tan Leads (www.SanTanLeads.com started in June of 2008). I am a tech enthusiast and an artist, strange combination maybe, but it works.  I am however, not a writer. If grammar is your thing you will surely be disappointed. I will not be one to make my high school English teacher proud, but I did get a fine art scholarship to the University of Arizona. That's gotta count for something. What you will find here are simply tips, suggestions and my professional opinion to help you navigate through the world of technology (sometimes other stuff too).  I hope you enjoy my posts and please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have.

Apples to Apples

When shopping, do you only look for the absolute cheapest items and products around? Don't confuse looking for a good deal with being cheap either. I love a good deal, but never want to be cheap about it. Great products or services are usually never the cheapest. There's also usually a reason for it. It may be that it cost more money to make the better product, it takes more time to make, or sometimes it could be a name that has a certain "status" or value to it.

Cheap phone service

It wasn't long ago that I remember pulling over to stop at the pay phone to call the number being displayed on my pager. Some teens may ask, "what's a pager?" It was a magical little box that someone would call the number to, put in their number, and it would beep/buzz to show you the number of the person trying to reach you. If they thought they were cool they might say hi with "07734", or just send you "8008". When you got the number, you could run around trying to find a phone to call that person back as they waited by the phone for you to call them. See, it was easy. Ask your parents, they had'em too. I guess my point is that the products that we use to communicate have come a long way. More people have phones today than had pagers back in the day. Do you ever meet someone that doesn't have a cell phone? I challenge you not to say, "you don't have a phone?".

Save money without coupons

These days you'll find QR Codes everywhere. QR Code stands for Quick Response Code. I won't get into the details of the QR Code, where it came from (yawn), and all of it's capabilities.  If you want to learn more about it, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

Give the extra effort, it's worth it.

Some things in life just takes more time and that's ok. We are so quick to pop something in the microwave or go to a fast food restaurant for a quick fix. We've all heard the term "just nuke it". Even movie streaming services are taking off because you'd rather not drive to the nearest kiosk or store, even though you can pay about a buck at the movie kiosks vs. 4-6 bucks per movie on the average streaming service.

Welcomed Changes at the Terrace Restaurant

I don't get a chance to get out with the guys often, but when my buds Bruce (A-1 Hand Handyman) and Jaymel (Anytime Auto Glass) said "let's go to the Terrace, they have dollar tacos tonight", I just couldn't refuse. This was an especially long day for me. Monday nights I usually don't get much sleep. It's often that I'm up till 2-3am preparing sales tips for my San Tan Leads Tuesday morning meeting. After only a few hours of sleep I was really looking forward to finishing my day with a cold brew, so Bruce's invite could not have come at a better time.

Get Your San Tan Valley Wallpaper

Normally I would give you tech tips/advice, but this time I thought I would do something a little different. I work on lots of computers and it's common that people customize their computer with a wallpaper image of cute little Johnny or a picture of their favorite place. With my job here at MyBizNow, graphic design is what takes up most of my time. One thing I will often do for my clients is to make them a custom wallpaper for their personal use. Usually this is after I have designed a logo or developed a website for their business. Living here in San Tan Valley, you can take a lot of pictures that would be worthy of a postcard to send to friends or family outside of our area to rub-in how great the weather is year round.

Recuva your favorite moments.

Have you ever accidentally deleted the files on your digital camera? I know many of us have done this. It's not like you can just re-do that cross country trip with little Rusty & Audrey.

I was recently reminded of the sinking feeling one gets while I was speaking to a customer on the phone. While explaining how to take better photos with the digital camera, I recommended that he make some room on his memory card since the new settings use more space/memory. Instead of moving the pictures to the PC, he had just deleted all. At first there was a long awkward silence.

Is technology killing you?

Technology isn't killing you, but your habits using it just might. I'm not talking about the obvious texting while driving. By the way, NEVER TEXT WHILE DRIVING! I am referring to my previous post "Use your computer to shed pounds". While that was more about the benefits of using a standing desk, this infographic by Medical Billing and Coding shows how the standing desk might not be such a crazy thing after all.

Files too big to send by email?

Have you ever tried to send a large file by email?  If it is a picture being sent to a loved one or those important late documents to your boss, then you know just how stressful it can be. When you attach that large file to your email and hit send, you may think that your computer is frozen because of having to wait so long for it to say "Send Complete". Finally when it does complete you have a sigh of relief until you check your incoming mail to see a message that reads "REJECTED" due to your internet service provider not allowing anything over 5 megabytes in size to be sent. With pictures, most of the time you could send 1 at a time, or reduce the size/quality of the pics to send without issue. Maybe you could do this with other documents also, but why when there are better options?

See More in Your Browser

This is not anything new, but I am surprised how many people still don’t know about this one. I am going to help you get the most out of the real estate on your monitor and focus on what you want to see. Are search toolbars and favorites getting in your way browsing the web and being productive? Yes, if you have 3,4,and 5 toolbars at the top of Internet Explorer you should probably uninstall them.

If you would rather not, you can simply locate the F11 key on your keyboard and press it. Instantly you gained inches (on your monitor)!
