As Hatfield was getting ready to leave, the two men began to argue from a distance and shortly thereafter got into another physical fight this time in the street. According to witnesses, during the second physical fight Dickey knocked Hatfield unconscious. The family dragged Hatfield into the garage and tried to wake him up. When they were unsuccessful, they called for an ambulance. Hatfield was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy was conducted on Hatfield and his death was ruled a homicide by “Manual Strangulation.”
Dickey was arrested on July 5th at his residence in Kearny. He initially told Homicide Detectives Hatfield had hit him first and he acted in self-defense. Dickey admitted the first physical fight had ended and the two had been separated when he re-engaged into the fight a second time.
Dickey was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for one count of Manslaughter.
