One Arrested Following Fatal Shooting at Arizona City Home

Arizona City, Ariz. – An Arizona City man has been arrested and charged with 1st degree Murder following a violent altercation with a friend during a Super Bowl party.

On 2-5-2012, just before 8:00 p.m., PCSO dispatch received a 911 call from a female in Arizona City stating someone had been shot inside a home.

When deputies arrived on scene of the home located in the 9000 block of W Coronado Drive, they discovered a black male victim, later identified as Walter Williams, 34 of Fresno, CA, deceased with a gun shot wound to the neck.

Williams’ girlfriend stated they were in town visiting Williams’ long-time friend, Damian McDowell and watching the Super Bowl at McDowell’s home with several other people when the two men began arguing.

The argument escalated to a point at which McDowell went into a back bedroom and grabbed a handgun. Shortly after returning to the kitchen to confront Williams again, McDowell fire one shot, killing Williams; several witness saw and heard the entire altercation.

McDowell stated, “I’m going to jail,” and fled the scene with the weapon, but later returned to his home after deputies and investigators were on scene. He was placed under arrest and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center.
