The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a very special guest will speak at the 2012 Peace Officers Memorial Service outside the Sheriff’s Office this Thursday, May 10th.

Kent Terry, brother of the late Brian Terry, will serve as the guest speaker during the service.

Brian Terry, a US Boarder Patrol Agent, was killed in the line of duty after he and fellow Border Patrol agents with the elite tactical BORTAC team were engaged while patrolling Peck Canyon, in Pima County, Arizona; eleven miles from the Mexican border.

The agents came across five suspected illegal immigrants whom opened fire on them. During a firefight, agent Terry was shot and, due to his injuries, lost his life a day later on December 15th, 2010.  Four of the suspects were arrested and two AK‐pattern rifles found nearby were identified as weapons connected to the Fast & Furious scandal by the ATF and Department of Justice.

Kent Terry will focus his remarks to include his brother’s life of service to America as a Marine, local police officer and US Border Patrol agent.  He will speak about the honor and sense of great personal pride in which Brian Terry served our nation.

Sheriff Babeu said, ʺWe are truly privileged to have Kent Terry speak at our Fallen Officer Memorial, which focused on the life of duty and sacrifice that all law enforcement and our families commit to when they wear the badge and swear an oath to protect our community, even with their own lives.  Brian Terry is a true American hero and rightly shall be honored at our memorial ceremony, along with all of our local fallen heroes.ʺ

Each year between 140 and 160 Peace Officers are killed serving in the line of duty in the Untied States and their families are left to pick up the pieces.  Since 1962, our Nation has celebrated the lives ofthese fine men and women, each year, during National Police Week.

On May 10th, 2012, Sheriff Babeu and the entire Pinal County Sheriff’s Office staff invites all law enforcement officers, family and friends, members of the community and media to attend a memorial service that will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Attendees are asked to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to allow for an on‐time start.

The service will take place at the Peace Officer’s Memorial outside the Sheriff’s Office located at 971 N Jason Lopez Circle, Florence, AZ 85132.
