A 16‐year‐old female passenger called 911 after the vehicle she was riding in, lost control and rolled. A second female passenger was pinned under the vehicle after the rollover.
When deputies arrived, the 16‐year‐old female driver, identified as Adriana Cruz, was unresponsive. Cruz was transported to Northwest Hospital in Oro Valley where she was pronounced deceased at 1:05 a.m.
The two other passengers were transported to area hospitals where they were treated for non‐ life threatening injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is unknown, but speed is likely a contributing factor.
The accident is still under investigation.
This week a large number of teens are expected to be on the road. Seven high schools graduation ceremonies are scheduled to take place in Pinal County.

To date PCSO has donated roughly $30K under the RICO statue to help area schools provide safe events for seniors to celebrate.
Sheriff Paul Babeu said, “My heart goes out to the family of Adriana Cruz. To see such a young life cut short is devastating for everyone involved. I would like to remind our teens to take extra care when out with friends and family during the graduation week. Attend your sober graduation night festivities to ensure this happy celebration is the beginning of much success in life and doesn’t end in tragedy.”
