On 6/10/2012 at approximately 3:05 a.m., Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Barnes Road west of Fuqua Road after a motorist who was delivering local newspapers approached the accident scene and called 911.
The sole occupant, identified by his Mexican voter registration card as Apolinar Galvez‐Soto, 38, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Galvez was traveling east on Barnes at an estimated speed of 43MPH in a 45MPH zone and drifted towards the north edge of the roadway before losing control and striking a small embankment on the northern roadway edge which caused the vehicle to rollover.
Galvez’s vehicle pictured as it was discovered at the scene.
Evidence indicated Galvez was not wearing a seatbelt. Investigators feel that alcohol impairment is a factor in this crash, in part because they found several empty and full cans of beer at the scene.
Galvez’s blood alcohol will be determined following an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.
Sheriff Babeu stated, ʺPinal County has one of the top DUI task forces in the state. Each year the number of impaired driving arrests continues to climb. Unfortunately, the task force can’t be everywhere and this crash is evidence of what can occur when somebody gets behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol. Donʹt be a crash statistic, have a designated driver.ʺ
