Supervisor Rios Recognized as one of the Most Influential Hispanic Leaders in Arizona’s 100 Year History

Pinal County Supervisor’s Pete Rios’ 1991 ascendency to become the first Latino Senate President in Arizona history has earned him a high honor from the Hispanic community.

Supervisor Rios’ time as Senate President was ranked third on the top-10 Arizona Hispanic Moments in Arizona history by Valle del Sol.

The District One Supervisor received the honor at Valle del Sol’s 22nd Annual Profiles of Success Celebration held recently in Phoenix.  Over 1,400 people attended the noontime event.

“This came as a surprise,” said Supervisor Rios.  “I was there to present an award with my daughter Rebecca, the last thing I expected is to be named on this list of centennial achievements by the Hispanic Community.  I am honored and touched by this recognition.”  Rounding out the top three with Supervisor Rios was Raul Castro being elected as the first Hispanic Governor in Arizona and school desegregation.

Valle del Sol is an organization based out of Phoenix that works to strengthen families with the goal of self-sufficiency.  They also aim to build the next generation of Latino and ethnically diverse leaders.
