Personnel wear pink for breast-cancer awareness

by: Queen Creek/San Tan Valley Independent

Southwest Ambulance and Rural/Metro Fire Department are joining EMS professionals across the country in recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, Rural/Metro is showing its support by allowing employees to wear custom uniform T-shirts - featuring pink logos and lettering – while on duty.

“ This fight is personal to many of our employees since they represent those who are touched by breast cancer,” Holly Walter, public information officer for Southwest Ambulance, said. “Breast cancer affects our employees as providers, survivors and supporters of loved ones lost.”

Additional activities are scheduled both inside and outside Rural/Metro’s Arizona companies:

  • Following the pink ribbon theme of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Southwest Ambulance created two special vehicles to promote breast cancer awareness and emphasize the importance of regular breast self-exams. The awareness ambulances showcase Southwest Ambulance’s commitment to educate the public about the second most common form of cancer in women. Both ambulances are on display throughout October.
  • Southwest Ambulance and Rural/Metro Fire are inviting Facebook fans to submit photos wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness to help women realize the importance of early detection in combating the disease.
  • Southwest Ambulance is proud to provide ambulance services for awareness and fund-raising events throughout the year such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Phoenix, and the Breast Cancer 3-Day.
