This individual was asked to sign an agreement refraining from similar activity in the future, but at no time were any threats made. At that time, the individual’s attorney assured the campaign that he was not interested in causing further trouble, which was accepted as true.
We strongly deny the sensationalist headline published by the Phoenix New Times.

UPDATE: A press conference was held today at 12:30pm at the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
During the conference Paul Babeu confirmed that he is gay (which he stated was difficult to admit but liberating at the same time); acknowledged that he had stepped down as the co-chair for Romney's presidential campaign in Arizona to focus on these allegations, confirmed he had a personal relationship with "Jose" but denied that he threatened to deport him. He also confirmed that all of the photos released were his photos, and that the text messages released were not altered but they were sent via his personal phone and at no time did he use any county or government property to send this information. "This is a moment of truth for me, I want to get the record straight," Babeu said. "What I do in my private and personal life is my own business … we're not hiding or ashamed of anything. I intend to continue to earn the trust of the people by talking about the real issues." Babeu ended the conference telling everyone that he was moving forward with his CD4 run and believed that his supporters would continue to support him regardless of his sexual orientation.
