Market on the Move This Saturday

by: Michelle Stefl-Tufail

Fitness Revolution is hosting an event on the 2nd Saturday of the month for Market on the Move. Market on the Move is a non-profit organization that rescues fresh produce. Produce that is perfect in every way is thrown into our landfills by the tons for many different reasons. For example, if there is a storm and a truck cannot get through to deliver the produce it can be rejected and sent to the landfill. The3000club.org has created 'Market on the Move' as a way to rescue the food and send it to food banks throughout Phoenix. In order to afford the cost of transportation they allow companies like Fitness Revolution to host events as a way to collect donations for MOM while sharing the rescued produce.

For a $10 donation you can get up to 60 lbs of fresh produce for yourself. You may now be wondering what you are going to do with 60 lbs of vegetables! Many people share them with family, friends, and neighbors.  Many fresh vegetables can be canned or frozen to be used later helping families save money and eat healthier. If you really have no desire to get 60 lbs you can take less, though. The donation is still $10 either way.

We at Fitness Revolution wanted to bring MOM to San Tan Valley knowing that we are all wanting more options available to us out here as far as shopping and food choices are concerned. We are just as passionate about nutrition as we are fitness so having a “farmer's market” in our community that is convenient and affordable seemed to make perfect sense. We had a great turnout to our first event on March 10th and hope to have even more people come out on April the 14th.

The bonus of MOM is that at each event we host we get to choose a non-profit to receive 10% of all donations we receive that day. Last month we were able to give just under $600 to Christ the Victor Food Bank and this month we are sponsoring Helping Hands Food Pantry which is operated by Solid Foundation Bible Church right here in San Tan Valley.

We want to welcome local businesses, artists, and musicians to be vendors at our events. We ask them to donate $25 to the food bank we are sponsoring for that event and in exchange they can set up a booth and promote their business. This helps to raise more money and gives local small businesses an opportunity to meet people in the community. Anyone interested in being a vendor at a future event is encouraged to email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.

Here is what to expect when you go: The event officially starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon. There may be a line so be prepared to wait for about 15 minutes or so. Once you get up to the front of the line you'll be asked to sign in and make your donation. You'll then be given boxes to load up with produce we will have put out on tables. You get to go along the tables and pick and choose what you want. If you need help carrying your boxes back to your car we can do that too. If you are on Facebook and you'd like to keep up with us and our future events please join our group 'Market on the Move hosted by Fitness Revolution'. While at the event please feel free to sign in with Fitness Revolution as well to get a 50% off membership coupon!

WHERE: Market on the Move will be held at Fitness Revolution, which is located at 2769 E. Combs Rd, San Tan Valley, AZ 85140.  It is on the south side of Combs between Kenworthy & Schnepf, next to the Napa
