Vietnam Veteran Loses His Home and is Homeless

by: Jennifer Divine

Ron and Ethel Pervis' home of 29 years, was hit by lightning two weeks ago.

The circuits in their house were damaged and the home blew up and was leveled to the ground.

The photo above this page is what's left.

The Pervis' barely made it out themselves.

They do not have any homeowner's insurance to cover anything.

Ron was in the Marines and is a Vietnam Veteran. When I was standing there talking to his neighbors, they told me he has had a really hard time with this, and has alot of pride and is embarrassed about receiving the help. I did talk to him and his wife Ethel, personally this evening. He explained that he is always the one helping others and this is really hard for him. I told him that he gave his service in the military and that he should let others serve him now. After talking to many of the ladies that were there to find out their needs, he is opening up and a little more accepting of what others are doing for him.

They received a donation of a tent today, so they will have covered shelter tonight. Another person is selling some kind of trailer they can put that on the lot and live their for now, for $600. Donations of $400 were raised so far, so hopefully they will have better living quarters soon.

Their address is 2159 W. Bonnie Lane, San Tan Valley, AZ 85142 if you'd like to personally deliver items yourself or you may drop off small items to Scrubs 'n More Boutique - 85 W. Combs Suite 102 San Tan Valley, AZ 85140 in the Fry's Marketplace shopping center at Gantzel and Combs.

According to their neighbors items that are most priority for now are:

  • BOTTLED WATER-as much water as possible for personal hygiene needs as well
  • Paper plates
  • Pop-top canned food
  • Women's XL shirts
  • Women's size 16 pants
  • Men's medium shirts
  • Men's 36x29 pants
  • Women's size 10 shoes
  • Men's size 9 1.2 shoes
  • Socks for both
  • 2 Battery operated flashlights
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Hair brush
  • Hair ties
  • Propane barbeque and some propane tanks

Again, the Pervis' are not asking for these things, this is what their 2 neighbors have found are their immediate needs based on what they've seen and talked to them about.

FUTURE needs for clean up (after the smoke is totally gone)...When I was there, Ethel had to get a bucket of water to throw on more smoke that continues to come of the rubble.

  • Gloves
  • Cleaning supplies
UPDATE: If you are interested in donating any items, please drop the items off at Scrubs n More Boutique (Gantzel and Combs in the Fry's Marketplace Center) or over at 2059 W. Ivar, San Tan Valley, AZ 85142. This address is one street over and items are being taken there so they are not ruined by heat and can be stored for usage as needed.

They are also asking for big things not to be dropped off yet, such a furniture or beds or things like that, because they are not needed right now. The damage needs to be cleaned up first before they can get to that point.
A trailer has been purchased for the family and it will be delivered on Monday.

LifePoint Church is also a drop off point for any donations you would like to make. You can bring them by tomorrow anywhere from 8a-noon or Monday-Thurs from 9-4. Right now they need clothing, socks, shoes, food, water, etc. Gift cards to Walmart would also be nice so they can pick up items they need as well.

There has been such an overwhelming amount of support for this family and we here at SanTanValley.com want to THANK all of you that have shared this information and helped out in way that you were able.   This family is so appreciative of all the help they have received.  If you have any additional questions regarding how you can help, please email divinegreen @ live.com.
