San Tan Valley Author's Book Has Bite

by: Stacy Mantle

The hit series True Blood may be on hiatus, but the new Shepherds series of novels by local San Tan Valley author, Stacy Mantle, is just ramping up – and that’s making a lot of urban fantasy readers very happy.

“I wanted to combine my experience with animal rescue into a genre that’s interesting and different,” said Stacy Mantle, award-winning author of the new Shepherds series. “What’s more fun than a wayward pack of were-animals under the protection of an untested Shepherd?”

A lot of fun, as it turns out.

“Shepherd’s Moon is about a woman who can communicate with animals – including were-animals,” says Mantle, author of the hit series.

According to one review,  Shepherd’s Moon “has a catchy reader's hook, and the protagonist's jocular but wry sense of humor make for an intriguing novel. Alexandra is a Shepherd-one who tracks and rounds up, not natural wildlife, but preternatural creatures. Outsourcing for the police department's Special Assignments Unit frequently puts her on the lookout for and trail of what are called "PSKs," "Preternatural Serial Killers," who of course are much more effective at achieving high body counts in a shorter time than their human counterparts. It's dangerous work, but somebody needs to do it.

Alexandra complicates matters by living with a pack of preternaturals-not really surprising, since her adoptive family included shifters and vamps...”

As the official “were-whisperer” of the Southwest Territory, Alexandra handles several of the “higher-risk” Weres that run the area.

From a shape-shifting, rebel rousing coyote to a troubled werejaguar and her cubs, the characters are what make this book relatable – and guarantees a long series life.

Shepherd’s Moon is set in the author’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona offering a scenic backdrop guaranteed to impress readers. Whether you’re an animal lover or not, Shepherd’s Moon will turn you into a rabid fan of urban fantasy.

Shepherd’s Moon is available online at Amazon, iTunes, BN, and other leading sites. It’s also available as a paperback at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstores nationwide.

What People Are Saying:

` "It's True Blood with a twist - a refreshing new look at werewolves (and were-animals in general)"

` "This book was amazing from page one to the very end! It is so difficult to write a story such as this and finish it leaving your reader wanting more, but Shepherd’s Moon did just that!"

` "...good old fashioned adventure with incredible characters. Great Reading!"

` "The author did an amazing job of drawing me into the world she created (being from the Phoenix Valley, I really dug the setting), and the characters were so easy to believe...I'm looking forward to finding out what happens with all of them next!"

` "If you're looking for a book that's action-packed with rich, memorable characters, Shepherd’s Moon is the one to read."
