I have worked with Jerald Monahan and until Monday I had respect for his opinions. My opinion of Jerald changed when I read his letter to the editor in Pinal County newspapers, endorsing Republican candidate for sheriff Jack McClaren.
In Jerald’s letter he states, “Jack has the ability to lead the Sheriff’s Office in a way that will focus on all the issues facing the people of Pinal County, not just the headlines, and he will do so in a way that brings honor, dignity and respect to the law enforcement profession.” While Jerald was chief deputy at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Jack was terminated for having a sexual relationship with a married subordinate and for giving her testing information to a Sergeants Promotional Examination, which amounts to cheating. If that describes a man with honor, dignity, and respect, I’d hate to see a man that has none.
I’m not here to discuss the politics behind Jerald’s endorsement, but I know politics when I see them. I hope the public can see how insignificant Jerald’s endorsement is, and the many insignificant others to follow in the coming weeks. Make decisions based on your own research and not because an important person makes a patently false endorsement.
