Political overload

by: Jeff Downing, Gold Canyon

It’s election time again and there is no place to hide. We get bombarded by road signs, junk mail, TV ads, radio ads, newspaper ads, phone calls and any other garbage that our wannabe representatives can think of to keep their message on the top of our minds.

I know most people who are running for political offices are not too smart, but enough is enough. Do they really think that a prerecorded phone call three times a week during my dinner hour will endear them to me and win over my vote?

Do you actually suppose that seeing 50 big, bright signs littering our highways and open space as I drive by at 65 miles an hour will set off a light bulb that says: “there that big blue sign with the Christmas tinsel, that’s the guy I want to vote for, why are all those other signs in the way?”

I am also not going to make a decision based on receiving multiple assaults of oversize post cards in my mail box every day.

They go right in the trash; it works real well on garbage day (garbage in, garbage out). I don’t have time to read overstated accomplishments and all candidates claiming that they are the “real” conservative. Especially those who have been or are in office, I check your record myself. The country, state or county wouldn’t be in the shape that it is if you really did your job as a functioning conservative.

TV and radio time must be expensive, have no worries my pause and mute buttons work just great.

So when you send more junk to my “House” and you “Fillmore” open space with signs, you are not being a “Prince” but merely a “Flake.”
