Arnson Statement on Supreme Court’s SB 1070 Decision

by: Derek For Sheriff Committee

Today, Derek Arnson, candidate for Pinal County sheriff, released the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a major component of Arizona’s immigration law, SB 1070, that allows law enforcement officials to determine the immigration status of individuals that have been stopped for questioning or arrest:

“This is an important step in making Arizona more secure, but it is just one step,” said Arnson.  “The federal government must do their job and secure our border.  As your sheriff, I will enforce the law and work to ensure that Pinal County is the safest in the nation.”

More about Derek Arnson:

Derek Arnson is a twenty-year veteran of law enforcement.  While serving as Gang Task Force Supervisor for Pinal County, Arnson led an unprecedented multi-agency operation called “Enough is Enough.”  The successful operation was aimed at taking the tri-city streets back from the gangs and drug dealers that had become commonplace. Arnson served as a member of the Department of Public Safety, where he provided protective duty to former governors Fife Symington and Jane Hull.  Additionally, Arnson held command positions with both the Buckeye and Hayden police departments, and served for two years as the chief of police for the Gila River Indian Community. Arnson and his wife of 24 years live in the San Tan Valley with their two children.  To learn more about Derek Arnson and his campaign to be the next Pinal County Sheriff, please visit www.derekforsheriff.com.
