Champion San Tan Valley welcomes Coach Andrew Johnson as their New Athletic Director. Johnson says he is excited to be a part of the Champion San Tan Valley family; and looks forward to building strong bonds between athletics and academics. “I want the students to be the best that they can be and strive to be better every day!”
Coach Johnson has always had a passion for sports, children and the healthy spirit of competition on the field, as well as the classroom. His three children are a part of the Champion family as students. Coach Johnson saw his own children embody the values of what it means to be a Champion and he wanted to be a part of that not only as a parent but professionally as well! When he saw there was an opportunity to become the Athletic Director at Champion San Tan Valley, he knew it was the perfect career for him.
Former Firefighter & Paramedic
Prior to becoming an Athletic Director at Champion San Tan Valley, Coach Johnson was a Firefighter & Paramedic for 12 years for the city of Phoenix. During his career as a Firefighter Coach Johnson received an EMT Certificate followed by his Fire Science Certification 1 & 2 all while attending Grand Canyon University working towards his Public Administration degree.
Coach Johnson’s Coaching Career
Born in Chandler, he started 18 years ago at Mesquite Jr. High School as Defensive Coordinator on the football team. In addition, Coach Johnson brings a variety of coaching experience to Champion Schools such as soccer, football and personal speed and agility coaching.
Coach Johnson has served as the President, Vice President and commissioner of the East Valley Pop Warner Football associations, one of the largest in the South West. Currently, he is also the Head Freshman Football Coach at Hamilton High School.
Specialized Athletic Program
This year Coach Johnson created a curriculum that is designed to build a well-rounded athlete with daily focus points. Mondays; Speed & Core, Tuesday; Agility & Plyometrics, Wednesday; Strength & Conditioning, and Thursday; competition day!
“I was raised with the same values that Champion calls the 10 pillars; Heart, Effort, Hard Work, Courage, Teamwork, Sacrifice, Persistence, Discipline, Determination and Passion. I want the students to know it is important to compete in the classroom, as much as it is important to compete on the field.”
Please feel free to stop by Champion San Tan to meet Coach Johnson. Let him know if you are interested in volunteering to support the program as a JV Coach or Referee.
