Letter to the Editor: NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW

Like many Americans, I watch helplessly while current and past leaders may receive little or no punishment for violating laws they helped to create. Instead of owning up to their improprieties, they hide behind lame laws and policies.

Sitting and past presidents must stand the same test as any American and not be given special dispensation that falsely exonerates them by using laws they helped to enact. Using absurd presidential powers to cover up their inappropriate actions must not be allowed.

Some of us military members who served at the highest levels of the Pentagon Command were sworn to protect classified information at all costs. We were even made to sign documents that clearly stated we would be incarcerated if we even discussed classified information let alone stored it in unsafe places. We clearly understood that by not properly protecting classified information, we placed our fellow Americans in harm's way.

As Presidents are commander in chief of our armed forces, they need to set an example of the highest order. What should concern the American people, even more, is the reluctance of elected leaders to admonish a particular President if they are members of the same political party. By not doing so, they themselves are culpable for covering up the improprieties of current and past Presidents. I liken such practices to the fairy tale where the king's constituents were fearful of reprisals if they told the king he had no clothes.

As the result of the irresponsible actions of Presidents Biden and Trump not protecting classified documents, they stand stark naked in the eyes of us and other nations of the world. It is the sincere hope of "we the people" that there are a few good bipartisan Americans and news media that have the courage to severely admonish these two men.
