Pinal County Employees Earn Accolades at Prestigious AACE Awards

In an impressive showcase of local talent and dedication, four distinguished employees from the Pinal County Development Services Department were recently celebrated at the esteemed Arizona Association of County Engineers (AACE) Robert C. Esterbrooks Awards. The accolades serve as a testament to the hard work and innovative spirit that drive Pinal County forward.

Dean Schifferns, Clayton Cathemer, Tony Martinez, and Scott White were the proud recipients of this year's honors, highlighting their outstanding contributions to the county and setting a benchmark for excellence in public service.

Dean Schifferns: Operations/Construction Support Award

Oracle Maintenance Assistant Foreman Dean Schifferns stood out for his exceptional role in operational and construction support. His instrumental efforts during the Margo Fire in Dudleyville, where he deployed his expertise to construct a vital fire line, exemplify his commitment to the community's safety and well-being. Schifferns' ability to foster leadership qualities among his peers further underscores his invaluable presence within the county's framework.

Clayton Cathemer: Rising Star

GIS Specialist Clayton Cathemer, a relatively new addition to the county's team since 2023, was named this year's Rising Star. Cathemer's proactive approach in addressing a significant backlog and rectifying addressing discrepancies in numerous subdivisions underscores his dedication and potential for making a lasting impact in Pinal County's development and planning initiatives.

Tony Martinez: Honorable Mention for Operations/Construction Support

Tony Martinez, the San Tan Area Maintenance Foreman, was recognized for his innovative problem-solving and leadership, particularly during challenging times. His ability to enhance operational efficiencies and his unwavering commitment to his team and community responsibilities earned him an honorable mention, underscoring his role as a key player in Pinal County's ongoing success.

Scott White: Honorable Mention for Engineering Support

Acknowledged for his exceptional engineering support, District 3 Manager Scott White has successfully overseen critical construction projects, ensuring they meet the county's high standards of quality, budget, and timeliness. His current supervision of the Randolph Community revitalization and Thornton Road widening projects in Casa Grande are prime examples of his adept management and commitment to community enhancement.

The AACE's Robert C. Esterbrooks Award Program, named after one of its founding members, is designed to honor public works professionals across Arizona who demonstrate excellence in their field, contributing innovative and effective solutions that benefit their communities.

Celeste Garza, Pinal County Public Works Deputy Director, expressed pride in the department's recognized employees, stating, "This is an honor to have so many of our people recognized at the Esterbrooks Awards. They exemplify our department's values and demonstrate the impact of dedicated public service on our community's quality of life."

The Pinal County Development Services Department continues to celebrate these achievements, seeing them as both an honor and a motivation to maintain the highest standards of service and innovation in serving the county's residents. The awards were fittingly presented during the AACE 2024 Conference in Maricopa on February 29, marking a proud moment for Pinal County and its exemplary team.
