EduPrize Celebrates Unity and Courage in Honor of Ruby Bridges

On November 14, 2023, the EduPrize San Tan Valley community marked a significant event in their school calendar. Students, teachers, and parents came together for the first annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, a tribute to a civil rights icon who made history as the first African-American child to integrate into an all-white school in New Orleans in 1960.

The day began at San Tan Heights Park, where participants gathered, reflecting the spirit of unity and acknowledgment of the past. From there, they embarked on a symbolic walk to the EduPrize campus located at 4567 W. Roberts Road in San Tan Valley. This journey was more than just a physical walk; it represented a journey of understanding, courage, and the ongoing quest for equality and inclusion in education.

Assistant Principal Lynk Jones spoke at the event, emphasizing Ruby Bridges' role as a trailblazer for equality in education. "Ruby Bridges' courage and resilience paved the way for equality in education, and we are proud to commemorate her legacy through our Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day," Jones said. He highlighted the walk's purpose to inspire students and teachers alike to embrace their passions and strengths, fostering an environment of unity and understanding.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the significance of acknowledging history and promoting inclusivity. It aimed to initiate dialogues about being brave and courageous, just as Ruby Bridges was in her time. School officials expressed their commitment to cultivating an educational environment that not only celebrates diversity but also encourages bravery.

The turnout for the event was remarkable, as noted in a Facebook post by the school: "Our first annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day had a fantastic turnout! Let us take a moment to appreciate the power of unity and the impact it can have on positive change. We honor Ruby Bridges and her courageous spirit that continues to inspire us all. Thank you to the families, friends, and students who came together to commemorate her legacy."

This event stands as a testament to EduPrize's dedication to creating a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is not just a one-day event but a step toward a continual journey of embracing diversity, understanding history, and building a community that values and respects every individual's journey.
