The Joe Foss American Legion in partnership with Johnson Ranch will be hosting its 5th Annual Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, March 23, 2019. The event will be held at the Johnson Ranch Catch & Release Fishing Pond, located at the South end of the Greens Park. Registration will begin at 8:30 am and fishing starts at 9:00 am. This event is free of charge to all youth under the age of 18.
This free event will be open to the first 100 registrants in three age categories: 8 and under, 9-13, and 13 to 17. Medals will be awarded to boys and girls who catch the largest fish (based upon weight) before being returned to the water. Each registrant will receive a free hot dog, chips and drinks. Adults will be able to purchase hot dogs, chips and drinks from the Joe Foss American Legion Riders.
Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles, but the group will have some poles on hand for use. Bait will be extremely limited, so each contestant is also encouraged to bring his/her own bait (treble hooks not allowed on lures).
The Joe Foss American Legion Post 97, originally known as San Tan Valley Post 97, was founded in June, 2009, our mission is to service local veterans with support services and the region’s youth with activities like fishing.
Co-sponsors of the event include Johnson Ranch, American Legion Riders and BSA Venture Crew 2116.
