Johnson has given notice to the Governor, the Arizona Supreme Court and the Pinal County Board of Supervisors that he is retiring effective June 30, 2013.  Judge Johnson has offered to continue to serve Pinal County and the citizens of this State after his retirement as a Judge when and as needed.

Suspect Deported 11 Prior Times in Custody for Smuggling Marijuana

On Tuesday, July 16th, 2013 at 3:58 p.m. a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office – K-9 Deputy was traveling westbound on Interstate-8 near Interstate-10. He initiated a traffic stop on a passenger car traveling westbound after he observed a traffic violation. The deputy turned on his emergency lights and the vehicle failed to stop but instead crossed over the eastbound lanes of traffic and then stopped suddenly. The doors to the vehicle opened and the Hispanic male driver and front seat passenger fled on foot. Both suspects were chased into a nearby trailer park.

Two Juveniles Seriously Injured in Eloy Crash

On October 30th, 2010 at 7:55 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 6300 block of South Iron Bar Road, Eloy. Deputies on scene discovered the driver had been traveling at a high rate of speed and then lost control of the 1999 Chrysler LHS sedan and drove into a fence. A heavy gauge metal fence pole went through the front of the vehicle and impaled both the driver and rear seat passenger.

Two Juveniles Charged in Connection with Apache Junction Bullying

On Monday, Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles announced two juveniles are charged in connection with Apache Junction bullying case. Pinal County Attorney Voyles filed Assault charges against two juveniles, both Class One Misdemeanors. The individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Two Inmates Obtain their GED While In-Custody

Earlier this year, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) - Adult Detention Center (ADC) began its first educational program within the confines of its facility. The Esperanza School was opened with the cooperation of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office and the Pinal County Superintendent of Schools.  We currently have 22 inmates in the program to obtain their GED.

Two Drug Dealers from Florence Arrested after Separate Search Warrants Served by PSCO’s Narcotic Task Force

On August 25th, 2014, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force executed two narcotics search warrants. One of the warrants was served on a residence located in the 100 block of North Willow Street in the town limits of Florence. The other was served at a residence in the 300 block of West Highway 287, also in the Florence town limits.

The Pinal Regional SWAT team was involved in a Desert Operation April 28th and 29th, focusing on the interdiction of individuals and/or groups involved in the smuggling of illegal drugs, undocumented aliens, stolen vehicles, weapons, money and supplies for such activities. This operation was in support of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to secure the area of the Sawtooth Mountains in preparation for a trash clean up.

Two Arrested For Stealing Hay

Two men were arrested and charged with theft for stealing two tons of hay from a local dairy farm near the 7000 block of E Palmer road.On 07-29-11 PCSO deputies were called to an area just South of Highway 287 on a report of suspicious vehicle.  Deputies contacted the driver of a white Dodge truck hauling a trailer full of hay.  The driver, Hector Pelayo, 33 told deputies he had just purchased the hay from a nearby dairy.

Paul Babeu is going to run for a second term as sheriff. Yep, he’s fallen from grace in the Congressional race and now has his sights lowered to reelection. Expect the announcement soon. Perhaps this week. Overall, Sheriff Babeu raised $144,000 for his Congressional campaign during the first quarter of 2012. That topped his two Republican opponents and gave Babeu bragging rights in Congressional District 4. That’s the good news for Babeu.

Town of Florence Hires Michael Farina as Finance Director

The Town of Florence hired Michael Farina to be the next Finance Director.  His first day on the job is Monday, June 3rd.   Mr. Farina is replacing Rebecca Guilin who is retiring from the Town in June after 19 years of dedicated public service to the Town and the community.   Ms. Guilin will stay on after Mr. Farina’s first day to ensure a smooth transition.
