Holiday season a great time to get your AZ Travel ID

az-travel-id

As the holiday season approaches, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) is reminding residents of the importance of obtaining the Arizona Travel ID. With the holiday slowdown, it's the perfect opportunity to upgrade your identification, ensuring hassle-free air travel come 2025.

From May 7, 2025, the standard Arizona driver's license will no longer be sufficient for domestic air travel. The Arizona Travel ID, conforming to the stringent federal REAL ID Act of 2005, will become necessary for passing through TSA airport checkpoints.

The Arizona Travel ID isn't just a regular ID; it's enhanced with a gold star, symbolizing compliance with federal regulations and added security measures. To obtain this ID, residents must provide additional documentation, including proof of identity (birth certificate or U.S. passport), Social Security Number, and two forms of proof of Arizona residency.

While walk-ins are accepted, the MVD encourages residents to schedule an appointment through Live Chat or online at azmvdnow.gov. Even those without an active AZ MVD NOW account can book their slot.

As the deadline approaches, the MVD emphasizes the importance of this upgrade, especially for those planning air travel post-2025. Without the Arizona Travel ID or an alternative form of federally compliant ID, such as a valid U.S. passport, travelers may face difficulties at airport security.

For a comprehensive list of necessary documents and more information, visit azdot.gov/TravelID. This holiday season, amidst the festivities, take a moment to prepare for future travel requirements. Schedule your appointment and ensure you're ready well before the 2025 deadline.
